Set in Manhattan’s towering financial district among the movers and shakers of monetary trading, our story takes an ex Army ranger, Jack Reacher like in his fighting ability, and throws him kicking and screaming into a constantly changing investigation into financial fraud, murder, and international intrigue. It’s a lengthy tale – well over five hundred pages – and at times it’s good fun, with plenty of action and multiple plot twists. The sexy beautiful woman is quite the exhibitionist (or so it appears) taking her morning swim with her little bikini or nothing at all—later naked. The book starts when his secret girlfriend (dating is prohibited among co-workers) is found hanging in a supply closet.

New Revised Standard Version Bible, copyright © 1989 National Council of the Churches of Christ in the United States of America. This is the latest action packed thriller from the prolific author, David Baldacci, set in the high finance world of New York. At night, on the ride home, he listens to the financial news on his phone, preparing for the next day in the cutthroat world of finance. he looked up at his disciples and said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. The 6:20 Man is a heart-racing thriller set in the world of high finance in New York, from the number one bestselling author David Baldacci.Age 28, with a great career, brilliant, she hanged herself on the 52nd floor from one of the rafters in the building, and the janitor found her. This injection of jeopardy heightens the sense of tension and provides the level of uncertainty necessary to hook you in to keep flipping those pages. Yes, in some places the plot might have overly relied upon unlikely outcomes or a dearth of logical consistency, but that was not fatal for its overall quality. As Devine digs a little deeper, he realises that someone is targeting him and trying to ensure the police do as well. His life begins to unravel when one of the firm's high-earners is found dead in a supply closet one morning, an apparent suicide.

There’s all kinds of spanners thrown into the works that manage to create the necessary areas of doubt that ensure we, the readers, are slightly unsure who’s on Travis’ side and who may be working against him. There were also a few loose threads here and we didn’t entirely get closure with some bigger picture nefarious dealings alluded to on the world stage, so perhaps Baldacci’s planning on picking those up next time around. Devine doesn’t like coincidences, especially when they involve him, and indeed Ewes’ death involves him, as he had dated and slept with her. The start of yet another series by master action thriller author David Baldacci introduces us to Travis Devine, a former army ranger who, after leaving the army earned his MBA and now works in the cut-throat world of Wall Street high finance. This works because multiplying both the numerator and the denominator by the same number is like multiplying it by 1.Devine is approached by NYPD Detective Karl Hancock who is investigating Ewes’ death, and it doesn’t take long for Devine to learn that Ewes did not commit suicide, but was murdered, and he is a prime suspect. In fact he delivers enough context and backstory for Devine that this feels like part of a series – as if we met Devine when he was still a Ranger, before leaving the military – when instead Baldacci slowly but steadily shares Devine’s backstory. This is just the tip of the iceberg as what is revealed is submerged in very murky waters in this well crafted thriller.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s more to this series and I’d certainly be happy to meet Devine again. In the undercover investigation, the former Ranger and Army scout knew that was something off about the lovely naked woman in the pool, who turns out to be Michelle.A brilliant thriller that sits somewhere between a political thriller and an investigation set in the world of financial misconduct and murder.

Though he isn’t completely happy with his new life, he has reconciled with his new reality but his years as a “combat stud” were far more satisfying on a personal level. Was Sara involved in the suspected shady dealings in the company or was she murdered for more personal reasons? With a high, relaxed waistline, voluminous legs and gloriously deep pockets, this easy, breezy outfit-in-one is the perfect combination of comfy and effortlessly cool. That was the only slightly jarring chapter (I can’t say it was a bad chapter either, especially as my eyes widened, and my jaws dropped at every consecutive sentence that came out of the antagonist’s mouth) as it was essentially a whole confession chapter, on a nearly info dumping level and mostly dialogue. As always with Baldacci, it is a wild and fast paced thriller that will keep you guessing until the end. Named after the idyllic California seaside town of colourful cottages and celebrities going incognito, Carmel has the capacity to be the epitome of easy elegance (picture a dark linen version paired with eye-catching jewellery and a broad-brimmed hat…) or wildly fun (romp around in a big crazy print!
