After arriving onstage to a cacophony of feedback squall and Aphex-style squeals, Kalev burst into action and don't stop. With a slew of A+R bods in attendance, they are keen to impress. After 10 minutes, heads have not only turned but started bobbing and everyone in the room realises why they are so confident for such a young band. Infusing a Rapture-style punk-funk sound with the more fluid psychedelia of their obvious heroes The Mars Volta (they even have the hair!), they sound like the exciting next step for the increasingly staid sound of 'now'.
Not only do they look great, but their songs have that enviable knack of sounding just as amazing first time around as you suspect they will sound ten years down the line. Safe to say, they won't be playing venues this size for long, so don't be surprised to see them blow away a few more people before the year is out.
