>THE LOW EDGES
LONDON, COMEDY - 26.04.05

I had seen the Low Edges very first gig when the band was just a two-piece. I also saw their first gig with the full line up back in January. I can safely say they have improved immeasurably. Their confidence has grown and the quality of the songs reflects this. It’s hard to imagine that the band have been playing together less than six months.

The set tonight was a perfect blend of understated beautiful songs such as ‘Dreamer’ with more up-beat, livelier numbers. Stand out tracks were ‘Estelle, Estelle’, ‘Live by the Sword’ and ‘Girl & the Gun’. The latter in particular has a fantastic almost haunting harmony from guitarist Peter, as well as a catchy chorus that remains in your head all night.

Singer/acoustic guitarist James, is an excellent performer, often conversing with the audience as opposed to most bands that just introduce the songs and ultra cool keyboardist/ flutist Rachel, added that much needed female presence to an otherwise all male group.

The inclusion of often overlooked instruments such as the flute, harmonica and melodica as well as their skills as musicians and songwriters sets them apart from most bands that you hear today.

Overall, the Low Edges tonight combine excellently written songs with a fantastic performance. They are a band that are sure to go far.
