+ PINK GREASE LONDON, ASTORIA - 18.04.04 |
|||||||||||||||||
Sunday, a day of rest, peace and reflection. If I was a god fearing citizen the depraved assault of Pink Grease and Peaches may have sent me rushing to the nearest confessional. Your always guaranteed a fun time when the Grease are playing but the Astoria's size seemed to raise their game to stratospheric hights of campness. They became a semi-heterosexual version of the Village people on Crack. Their enthusiasm was intense, urging the crowd to come up and beat them, the sound electro glam punk. Despite an occasional inability to use their instruments coherently, the overall effect was fantastic darling. If that wasn't enough with Peaches entry it became clear that Pink Grease had been only an apperitif. As one of the minority of men present, I felt increasingly nervous with excitement. Ladies gyrating on stage comlete with wobbling strap-ons, S&M sessions, erotic hula hooping, Lesbians running riot. Holy shit, I really felt confused. Add to this the wild unpredictability in her performance, levels of Bass normally restricted to Jungalist conventions and the result was a classic. Ok so some of the song lyrics were slightly dodgy ('fuck the pain away' etc) but it really didn't matter. Even Security was hypnotised by the performance, unable to resist temptation as Peaches urged them to hold her ass. Sweet Jesus, I think its time for a cold shower.
