Instead of a mere cheerleader who could land a round-off, I got something better: the raddest rock climber, snowboarder, wilderness therapist, hiker, surfer, and model a director could hope for. And then one day, one of the members of the tribe stands off and the, um, the shackles fall off, and they realize that they’re not chained after all, that they’re free to go at any time. If we are honest with ourselves, we all need to make such journeys too, albeit in different specifics.

And today, even, even though we didn’t go to bed, just totally in chaos, just getting up this morning and looking at one another with a kind of, what do we do with this proverbial hangover from what occurred? And when I think about curiosity, I do, I do think about my story that one I just told you about my abuse, because I didn’t just name that I was curious.Months sharing input on cover designs and layouts and attending meetings that only get more intense in the weeks leading up to the big day.

And, because I had been a secular artist before, I had, you know, finally done the good thing and given my, working hours to the Lord and started making sacred art.

This book brought me comfort in the hours when I didn't realize how much I needed the warmth and honesty of Blaine's words. Director Blaine Hogan came to us at the beginning of his creative process with a wild idea to make a fun film about pickleball–a sport near and dear to us on the Voke team. Blaine’s story will immediately grab your attention and leave you feeling like your cup has been filled. Standard spirituality, religion and the New Age tell us that we live in a wonderful world, made by a creator who loves us, and who is always waiting for our prayers. As long as we are true to ourselves, and as long as we trust God to lead the way, we should always do our best and let God handle the rest.

The creativity process requires such, It isn’t just a muse that inspires it is a level of labor of editing, editing, editing, work, work, work, editing, editing. It has been taboo for so long for men to speak out about how they experience violation and harm; but here is Blaine, setting a much needed precedent that tells a tale of pain and redemption. I thought I’d share a little more of the process of this spot and post the treatment that won the job. Hogan's stories can be a way to inspire us not to be bogged down by our past but to remember that in Christ, we are free to get up every time we fall. It turns out Blaine Hogan's story though not(really) similar to mine but enough to show me how I could apply what is in his story, and his trauma and see what God is attempting to do in mine.It was the energy and the invitation to, when you don’t have words, will you start listening not just to what’s inside, but what your partner is inviting you to hear about not just your failure, but about what was happening for her in the midst.
