>THE PATHETIC WHINE OF RASHIED THE MONSTROUS
Lethal Rejection - '2.1.2.2.'
Bizarre title. Is that some kind of significant date? Or how they count in their songs? Who knows? Anyway, instrumentally, this is ok, if you like Black Flag and D.R.I. It's not as good as either of them though. The vocals are not that great and sound like someone trying to be in a band who like Black Flag and D.R.I. as opposed to having their OWN voice. Lyrics are the generic nonsense you get in this genre about self-hate, alienation from society, government conspiracies blah blah blah. Their cover of Search and Destroy is not as good as the Dictators version. On the plus side all 11 tracks come in at 16 minutes and 52 seconds. But since Extreme Noise Terror came out with 'Dead', aren't tracks longer than a second
passé in hardcore? Maybe not, what do I know. If you live in Buttfuck, Salt Lake City and are dim, you may like this. But if you want to really know how it's done, get 'Damaged' by Black Flag and have done with it. Better yet, read 'Get in the Van' by Henry Rollins, and then try to imagine Lethal Rejection going through all that. Ain't gonna

happen, my friends.

Visionary Underground - 'Eye of the Storm'
Mystical drum and bass lite anyone? Thought not.

Fucking Champs - Camden Underworld, 6 May 2005
Went to the hellhole that is Camden Underworld to see the Fucking Champs. The Fucking Champs fucking rule, dude. They play music based on all the clichés of metal, but on like, non-metal guitars. And they look non-metal. Subtle semiotics are at work here people, that I ain't seen before. They have no bass player, but they don't sound like they need one. Tim Green, who was in Nation of Ulysses, does not sing and plays a rubbish Stratocaster copy. The other guitarist

looks like Will Oldham and plays what looks like a homemade 9 string guitar. And the drummer does not have two kick drums, but sings and holy moly, he plays guitar as well on at least one song as far as I can remember (hey, I don't get out much anymore and I was a bit pissed), and SINGS! Yes, the Champs are the bomb diggy.

Totally pointless - why metal if you're not metal? But cool - you get to hear serious riffin' without going to see Slayer or the Eagles in 1066. Yowsah.

And the rest...

I am looking forward to Patti Smith at her Meltdown thing, even though I could only get tickets for the Jimi Hendrix thing which I suspect may be dreadful. But hey, it's Patti. And I am looking forward to Oxes, 9th June, LSE Quad. I'll be the fat old geezer looking deranged.
