I would have preferred a more modern strap: Perhaps a flat shell cordovan piece like the ones Nomos loves so much. The mid-case is not a cylinder, but rather has a conical shape, first flaring up and out, and then sharply cutting back in, creating a ridge at the case’s widest point.

In the evening I either see friends for dinner, go to see a film or a play, or at home cook something nice and catch up on my favorite tv series.And while the Withings Activité delivered fitness tracking features in a Swiss made watch long before Mondaine, the latter has the benefit of having an existing winning design, and the difference shows. And Mondaine/MMT has been slow to update their app with additional functionality, including better integration with HealthKit. As someone who has tried trackers before, I do like that it’s all integrated into an attractive watch. Everyone is talking about “software-defined” everything lately, so it was only a matter of time before industry buzz turned to software-defined storage. With headquarters in Zurich and a factory in Solothurn, the company is just as Swiss as their SBB watch line would have us believe.

I opted for the latter, as the watch is a little chunky to wear while sleeping in my opinion (full disclosure, I don’t wear any watches while I sleep as I find it annoying). Helvetica is the Latin name for Switzerland, and is inspired wholly in its design and aesthetic by the font, including the lugs of the case matching the number 1. The biggest differences between the original Bold and the Smart watch are the crown and the case back. The back of the face is engraved with the timepieces special features like the Swiss made stamp, stainless steal material, sapphire crystal face and water resistant design. The Helvetica Bold celebrates the iconic Helvetica typography, Swiss watch design, and modern style.It’s truly a shame that most smart watches will end up in landfills within a few years of their purchase.
