About this deal

It's time to make Britain a republic, free of the power of royals and the church. It's time to enter the twenty-first century, although 22 years late. This documentary never brings up the obvious point that royalty in our age is absurd. As I noted in my review of https://bargain-sleuth.com/2023/04/27... a few weeks ago, Robert Jobson is a royal historian who has very strong opinions on what makes a good biography. The ability to interview one’s subject is one criteria, and as The Sunday Times royal correspondent, Jobson has had the opportunity to interview King Charles more than once over the years. This does not make him an expert by any means, but it does mean that some quotes directly attributed to the new King came directly from conversations with the author. Promoting the role of the Armed Services within national life, through operational visits, ceremonial duties, and commemorative activity across the UK and around the world. I'm glad he's not my new king. It's 2022, people. Shouldn't we be finished with monarchies? Why do we insist on allowing inbred half-wits to have the status of royalty? The author has met the king several times, so you get his personal take at times. It is a biased history, with the author favouring Charles, so readers wanting an unbiased account might not like it, though this isn’t too blatant. I usually prefer unbiased books, but I’ve always liked Charles, so it doesn’t bother me in this case.

For over fifty years, The Prince of Wales used his unique position to champion action for a sustainable future. On 9 December 1992, The Prime Minister, John Major, announced to the House of Commons that The Prince and Princess of Wales had agreed to separate. The marriage was dissolved on 28 August 1996. The Princess was still regarded as a member of the Royal Family. She continued to live at Kensington Palace and to carry out her public work for a number of charities.

With Andrew and Harry out of the picture, and the death of the late queen, what to do with all the patronages is a big question. In the official coronation photograph featuring the remaining 11 working royals, the Duke of Kent and Princess Alexandra are 87 and 86 respectively, the king, 74, the queen, 76, Princess Anne, 73, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester 79 and 77 respectively, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh 59 and 58 respectively, while the Waleses are both 41. Andy Wightman, a Scottish land reform expert and former Scottish Green party MSP, said the house seemed to have been a publicly owned asset used to help the royal family’s employees or people associated with the royal family. That was a form of public benefit, he said. It is my great hope that this Coronation Food Project will find practical ways to do just that – rescuing more surplus food, and distributing it to those who need it most.” Most Read

There’s nothing incredibly revelatory about this book for anyone that’s read anything about Charles in the past. However, with the gift of hindsight, many of the incidents leading up to his ascension to the throne are seen with new perspective. His strengths and weaknesses are catalogued, and his first decisions and duties as king are explored. The palace’s policy on official gifts states that they “are not the private property of the member of the royal family who receives them.” Government papers uncovered by the Guardian show that for decades the property was treated as a state-owned building and used as “grace and favour” homes for dignitaries and employees of the royal household. Reflecting on what made Britain “so special”, he said the nation could draw on “deep wells” including “the breathing space we afford one another.”

Don't ya have another wish, my lord? This poor fella is too far gone.""Well then, can you make Camilla beautiful?" Charles asks hopefully.

Highlighting achievements or issues that, without his support might otherwise receive little exposure; Since the property is now being rented out on a commercial basis as part of the king’s personal property portfolio, this historic understanding no longer has any validity,” he said. “The king should pay a market price for the property to the government.” The Georgian house in Edinburgh’s New Town area, which is divided into two flats, was given to the queen in 1953 by its previous owner. The king and queen were attending a reception and dinner to recognise the work of the City of London civic institutions and Livery Companies – the city’s ancient and modern trade guilds.

With just a few weeks to go until the coronation of Charles III, it’s time to do a little reading for yourself. This time the choice fell on the new book by author Robert Jobson, who has written several books about the British royal family. The title of the book “Our King- Charles III- The Man and the Monarch Revealed” is clear. The book tries to form a picture of the man Charles as well as the new monarch. While reading it is striking that it is not very innovative, you always have the feeling of “hey, I’ve already read that”. That will probably also be true as a Royal Book Blog… If you are new to the world of Charles III, this book is a good choice.
