When Herod died shortly after Jesus’ birth, his kingdom was divided into five parts. Most of the Gentile areas were separated from the Jewish areas, which were split between two of Herod’s sons, Herod Archelaus, who received Judaea and Idumaea (as well as Samaria, which was non-Jewish), and Herod Antipas, who received Galilee and Peraea. (In the New Testament, Antipas is somewhat confusingly called Herod, as in Luke 23:6–12; apparently the sons of Herod took his name, just as the successors of Julius Caesar were commonly called Caesar.) Both sons were given lesser titles than king: Archelaus was ethnarch, and Antipas was tetrarch. The non-Jewish areas (except Samaria) were assigned to a third son, Philip, to Herod’s sister Salome, or to the province of Syria. The emperor Augustus deposed the unsatisfactory Archelaus in 6 CE, however, and transformed Judaea, Idumaea, and Samaria from a client kingdom into an “imperial province.” Accordingly, he sent a prefect to govern this province. That minor Roman aristocrat (later called a procurator) was supported by a small Roman army of approximately 3,000 men. The soldiers, however, came not from Italy but from nearby Gentile cities, especially Caesarea and Sebaste; presumably, the officers were from Italy. During Jesus’ public career, the Roman prefect was Pontius Pilate (ruled 26–36 CE). Isolation. Officers isolate the suspect from family and friends, in the hopes that it will make the person feel alone. The reliance on isolation led to the development of the modern, windowless interrogation room. In sum, remember that "If I speak in human and angelic tongues but do not have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal. And if I have the gift of prophecy and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge, if I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing. (1 Cor. 13:1-2)" In all things, charity: a post being orthodox or otherwise factually correct does not mean it will not be removed if it is also uncharitable.

In the East (eastern Asia Minor, Syria, Palestine, and Egypt), territories were governed either by kings who were “friends and allies” of Rome (often called “client” kings or, more disparagingly, “puppet” kings) or by governors supported by a Roman army. Its sad that Christians don’t talk about these topics more. Also because prolonged singleness or getting married at an much older age is becoming much more commonplace. Boomers had it much better, times may have been harder but the fruit was sweeter. Today owning a house and finding a wife/husband is becoming progressively harder. It wasn’t until Christianity came on the scene that Jesus truly threatened Rome. Christians interrupted the status quo with their insistence on one God, flying in the face of the Roman pantheon, including emperor worship, and the enormous economy built around the temples. Christians pledged themselves to someone they considered greater than the emperor.I think greed and oppression of the poor is far worse than sexual sin. Its kind of ironic, probably a lot of conservative people on here are feeling guilty for the wrong things. the Jewish leaders were not authorized to perform executions (John 18:31). Thus, Jesus was taken to the Roman governor of Judea, Pontius Pilate. “The King of the Jews” was written on a sign above Him, a clear indication exactly what sort of respect Rome had for any Jewish “king.” For the next three centuries, Christians were sporadically persecuted and often driven underground. Although eschatology is the doctrine of last things, the Jews who anticipated future redemption did not expect the end of the world. Instead, they thought that God would intervene in human history and make the world perfect: that is, the Jews would live in the Holy Land free of foreign domination and in peace and prosperity. Many Jews, including John, expected final judgment to precede this golden age, and he taught that people should repent in view of its imminence (Matthew 3:1–12; Luke 3:3–9). Since Jesus accepted John’s baptism, he must have agreed with this message, at least in part. Though much of the hatred for Christians came from misunderstandings (a common rumor was that Christians were cannibals, due to the practice of the Lord’s Supper), perhaps the suspicion and fear was not unfounded — within a few centuries, Christianity had spread throughout the Mediterranean, and the Roman Empire was no more, splintered into smaller entities.

Paul lets the church of Corinth know about eyewitnesses of Jesus who were still alive (1 corinthians was written around 20 years after ✝️) It is difficult to accuse these sources, or the first believers, of deliberate fraud. A plot to foster belief in the Resurrection would probably have resulted in a more consistent story. Instead, there seems to have been a competition: “I saw him,” “so did I,” “the women saw him first,” “no, I did; they didn’t see him at all,” and so on. Moreover, some of the witnesses of the Resurrection would give their lives for their belief. This also makes fraud unlikely. Especially when you consider that Jews in Jerusalem in this time period would try to avoid upsetting the high priest and Roman prefect.
