Artistic License – History: Confederate troops never came anywhere near Michigan during the Civil War. The voice overs from the various other players are done well enough, and there aren’t any real problems here. In terms of sound effects, you are catered for nicely with what you would come to expect, much gun fire and explosions which are complimented with a good deal of punch, incessant buzzing of chainsaws, and the following squeals from the things on the receiving end of your implements of death are also well realised. Demonic Possession: Deadites are once again possessing humans. This time around, Ash can possess them too with a right spell, complete with the famous Raimi-cam. Also, the game is infected by that terrible plague called the "save game token", the power-up which will allow you to... save your game. Incredible. At least the damn thing lets you save anywhere you like, but it's still horribly misguided, especially since this game is most fun in half-hour doses. You normally receive tasks from talking to various characters found throughout the game world, and they will usually concern gaining access to a certain place, or locating a specific person, or persons, obtaining objects, among some other more specific things.

Given the more open adventure style nature of the game, Saving progress is handled here with tokens that can be found at certain points about the various levels. Once collected, they are stored in your inventory, and can be used at any time during a level to keep all that you have accomplished to that point. Also, you get some freebie saves before and after a boss battle, which is a neat little inclusion. As Ash, you must use his chainsaw for a hand, as well as the trusty shotgun and pistol, new magic abilities (call down a rain of fire or possess the enemy to do the dirty work for you), plus a host of other weapons (grenades, shovels, etc.) to destroy the dead.

One of the best things about the game is what Bruce Campbell brings to the games overall charm and character by providing the voice of Ash. He also did so for the previous Evil Dead game, but in that instance, provided a very subdued, unenthusiastic performance. This isn’t the case here, however, and he delivers the familiar style one-liners, quips and banter that have been scripted well in tune with the ‘Army of darkness’ movie in particular, and are brought to life with some genuine gumption and conviction by Campbell, as only he can. The name of the television station KLA2 is a reference to Klaatu from The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951). Fans of the movies will get into the game simply because Bruce Campbell's constant dialogue infuses the action with enough personality to separate it from the other action titles. Straight-up action fans might get bored with the game halfway through, but after all, the game costs half as much. Arm Cannon: In the museum, Ash finds a fluid cannon for his stump that coats enemies in gasoline, allowing them to be set on fire with one shot; it gets upgraded into a flamethrower during the colonial era. During the Civil War era, Ash also gets a Gatling gun to strap to his stump. In the days leading up to his encounter with Kandar The Destroyer, Ash wore a small clip on his belt containing four extra shotgun shells.

After the Necronomicon is read aloud in a local television program, Deadites are running amok in the small town of Dearborn, Michigan. It's once again up to Ash ( Bruce Campbell) to fix things up by killing every sorry-ass deadite in his way and even travelling through time. While you’re going about your business, there are hordes of deadites to contend with, who serve to keep you busy while you are figuring out all the connections. Wait until he is walking toward a barrel and gets close to it. Then, shoot the barrel and it will explode, flipping him over. Start shooting him after he flips over. Later in the fight, he will start charging you. When this happens, run along the walls until he runs into one, then start shooting him. After assuming control of his father's hardware store, Ash also acquired a shotgun shell reloading press, which recycles spent empty shells and refills them with powder and shot. The game is based on the game engine of State of Emergency, with very similar gameplay. Essentially it's a free-roaming beat-em-up with 360 degree aiming gunplay.

One-Winged Angel: Nathaniel Payne, Dr. Eldridge, and Trisha all transform into monsters before you fight them. Mythology Gag: One of Ash's taunts is "Ever read A Farewell to Arms? Well I wrote it", which is reference to a visual gag in Evil Dead 2.NOTE: This is not the only possible combination of plugins. There are others that will work (better or worse) for your particular hardware. We provide you with one working set-up so that you may get the game up and running, hassle-free. Testing other emulators/plugins is up to you. On this occasion, with a brand new story based on the world created in the Evil Dead films, Ash can teleport to 4 distinct eras of Dearborn, to not only see how the invasion of the dead took place all those years ago, but to watch in horror as they multiply and control the world they now live in. The polygon count for all the various models here is quite low, as you might expect, and it’s all fairly flatly textured, and as for pixel shading . . . forget it. This is the second Evil Dead game I know of; the previous, also by THQ, was awful in every way. So awful, in fact, that I only bought this because someone said it was better. Go to the other door you opened and kill the Slavelord here to get the cell key. Then go free the prisoners oin both rooms. Go inside the right room to find a leecher and Save Token. Talk to the man with the ! above his head. He'll tell you the way out, and give you a wrench. Use it on the control panel near the grated door to get out.

Idle Animation: There's a standard idle animations like Ash twirling his gun around, but if left in one spot for an extended period of time, the camera would actually zoom in and swing around to face Ash head on, eliciting a "Um.... Hellooooo?" from our hero. Another good thing in the realm of sound is the music. It swells whenever a threat approaches, so the music (as in a horror film) is dynamic and actually helps the experience of the game. The melodies are straight out of a horror film (think frantic), and build the sense of urgency and danger.

Prior to being "acquired" by Ash Williams, the shotgun was owned by Raymond Knowby, who presumably used it for hunting on the property which the Knowby Cabin was located. It is unknown if Raymond bought the gun new or second-hand. The second licensed Evil Dead video game from 2003 for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox, developed by VIS Entertainment and published by THQ.
