The Zoom G6 is a lightweight, portable and powerful guitar multi-effects processor. A 4.3” colour LCD touch-screen interface complements an integrated pedal board, comprising 6 stomp switches and expression/volume pedal. This allows you to easily and intuitively tap into the unit’s powerful Zoom FX processor technology with custom amp modeling. A USB interface allows you to take advantage of Zoom’s Guitar Lab software, while optional wireless connectivity allows you to use your phone as a secondary interface. The G6’s memory mode even allows you to pre-program your entire performance. I really appreciated this function, as you can group any combination of your custom made ‘pedal boards’ or patches into groups of four, which I would argue is more than most would need for a live setting. That’s four completely different signal chains, in one bundle so you can have vastly different sounds per song, or even each section if you wish. This not only works great in live situations, but also in the recording studio if you prefer a more hands on approach to tweaking your sound. I know I certainly do. a) In EFFECT/BOARD mode, pressing and holding the first switch and will jump to the patch on the left. Clamp the second switch and go to the patch on the right. b) In MEMORY mode, hold down the first switch and move to the bank on the left. We clamp the second switch and go to the bank on the right. This sturdily built, well-sized unit has six different amp models to choose from, with each amp being custom designed and tweaked for inclusion. There’s also an impressive 22 cabinet emulations, with 70 pre-loaded full impulse responses providing various options for microphone positions and rooms. If this wasn’t enough, you can also upload your own favourite impulse responses (IRs) via the SD Card slot. However, the Gear4music extended warranty scheme provides an enhanced service, and is designed to offer a higher level of protection than many 'free' warranties offered by some retailers and manufacturers. The G6 has room for 240 patches, including 100 presets so you can build patches for each song in your repertoire and easily cycle through your setlist. Create patches of up to seven effects. I can say that I managed to make the second patch sound as good as the first one. The second patch is 99% similar to the first. Your sounds may be complex but building them shouldn’t be. Flagellants sound great, great dynamics. I didn't expect digital audio to improve so much in the last 10-15 years.
