About this deal

Good for activewear: Raglan sweaters allow for free movement, making them a good choice for sportswear or other activities. So this pattern is nothing but a collection of schematics along with a big chart of each of the three vest pieces, with annotations indicating assorted details the knitter might need to know. I have a couple of Japanese knitting books and they’re all like this — at most you get a detailed diagram with measurements and counts all over it, along with a chart for any necessary colorwork or pattern stitches that might factor in. Often the entire garment is charted like this one — stitch by stitch. Is this the standard/traditional form that Japanese knitting patterns take? Or is that a more modern approach? Experience: Intermediate. Knitters should have basic knitting skills plus experience with knitting lace and reading charts. The ribbing is also partially charted on the left II-I- and on the right -I-I. The I represents a knit stitch and the - represents a purl stitch, meaning that on the right side of the fabric you start with k1, p1, k1, p1 and you end the row with p1, k1, p1, k2. Charts always show the right side of the fabric. The ribbing is worked over 4 cm (10 rows), this information is given on the left side of the graph: 4(10 段). Working from charts, understanding decreases, and knitting with worsted-weight yarn and larger needles gave me the confidence and practice I needed to ease into lace knitting. If I learned how to knit lace after years of frustration and failure, I know other knitters can, too!

Thank you! What’s the main thing you think people should know about trying to knit from Japanese patterns, especially those that haven’t had the annotations translated like this one has? What’s the best way to learn? Materials: 1 ball of worsted-weight yarn (approx 100 yards), two sets of 5 size 7 double- pointed needles (or 2 circulars or 1 long circular for magic loop), basic knitter’s toolkit. One of the funnest aspects of this year’s Fringe and Friends Knitalong is the fact that it’s a Japanese pattern. It’s my favorite kind of pattern — simply a chart with some notes. But the fact that it’s a garment (one size), and that the Japanese do things a bit differently, makes it just challenging enough to be interesting. Panelist Meri Tanaka and I had an enlightening conversation about why Japanese patterns are the way they are, what that has meant for knitting in Japan, and how to interpret the assorted unfamiliar markings on this one. I learned a lot and am sure you will, too! Experience: Intermediate. Knitters should have basic knitting skills plus experience with reading charts. One of the magical things about knitting and crochet is the way that traditions vary a little from country to country, so you’ll probably never run out of interesting things to discover. You like monochrome texture, with plenty of lace and cable. The occasional involvement of a crochet hook doesn’t faze you. Yes, and this is very kind and easy to understand diagram compared to other ones I’ve seen in Japanese knitting patterns!

Full version of a knitting pattern is included in each class but they are for reference to a particular technique. These workshops are not knit alongs. If you can overcome the fact that most patterns have one size only, usually the only difficult part is increase and decrease. Please keep in mind that cast-on/bind-off and increase/decrease methods, as well as a lot of details, are often not described in the patterns; it’s totally up to you. There are not many techniques used in Japanese knitting — for example, most cast-ons are done in either long-tail method or with crochet cast-on with waste yarn.Inside the waistband the information 1目ゴム編み and 9 号針 reads: 1 x 1 ribbing with Japanese needle No.9 (4,8 mm).

Everyone's knitting style is a little different. Whether it's tension, your personal knitting gauge, or the way you wrap your yarn around your fingers. But when it comes to which hand you hold your yarn in, the knitting world is pretty divided.Description: In this workshop, we will learn about stories from knitters around the world, and we will learn to knit a pattern stitch from each region and knit a sampler. Stories and techniques will be different in this workshop. On the left side of the chart it is indicated to work for 29,5 cm corresponding to 62 rows before starting the armhole shaping: 29,5(62 段). The armhole shaping itself is only written on the right side as the left side is worked the same way. At first sight the numbers for the shaping may look irritating, yet they follow a simple rule. Recently ITO added the Japanese knitting magazine Keitodama to its product range as well as a small yet fine selection of Japanese knitting and crocheting books. The magazine and the books are available through our retail partners. In terms of the first increase, it’s really not “every 1 row”, but it simply means you increase one stitch, once.Whether to increase or decrease is often omitted from the diagram, and knitters need to figure it out themselves. (99% of the times it’s pretty obvious.)

Brainstorming and idea generation: Writing coaches can assist clients in generating ideas, organizing thoughts, and developing outlines for their writing projects. Other Names: Despite the fact that Portuguese knitting is done around the world and is less tied to a specific location than any other style of knitting, Portuguese knitting does not have any other common names.Description: Beads add a fabulous touch! Knowing just the basics of knitting, you can easily create colorful designs with beads. Using only garter stitch and learning how to read and work from beading charts, in this workshop, we will make beautiful jeweled wrist warmer cuffs that are inspired by those popular in Lithuania. We will also learn beautiful crochet trim stitches – with and without beads, for trimming the wrist warmers. Comfortable: Raglan sweaters are typically made from soft, comfortable materials, such as cotton, wool, or acrylic. Experience: Beginners welcome! If you can do the knit stitch, you can make these beaded wrist warmers.
